The Mt. Pleasant Discovery Museum will host September's Kids & Culture from 10 am until noon on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 5093 E. Remus Road in Mt. Pleasant.

Participants will be making a “Grass Man” Craft. Decorating a mini terra-cotta pot and planting grass seed. As it grows into the cooler months, give your grass man a “haircut” for the refreshing scent of fresh-cut grass!

Kids & Culture is a free, family-friendly program on the 2nd Saturday of each month. The programming is focused on bringing cultural opportunities to kids. Each event features hands-on activities, free admission, and the opportunity to learn more about featured art, music, dance, and so much more!
Attendees at each Kids & Culture 2025 event will be entered into a monthly drawing for (4) day passes to the Soaring Eagle Waterpark in Mt. Pleasant.

Help celebrate Relay For Life's 35th year in Midland County! Join us for a free community event and fundraiser between 11 AM and 11 PM at the Midland County Fairgrounds. There is something for everyone to enjoy, including: a craft show (11 AM - 4 PM), resource village (11 AM-4 PM), haunted house (1 PM - 10 PM, entry by donation), touch a truck (1 PM - 3 PM), remembrance and reflection ceremony (3:30 PM), survivor ceremony (5 PM), and a track or treat (6 PM - 8 PM). This is the second course of four in the Fundamentals of Drawing series with acclaimed artist and instructor Julie Tyslicky. This course will build upon the skills learned in course 1 to further advance your technical art skills. Participants will learn how to utilize tools to sharpen their skills in drawing. You will learn more about observation with site measuring. Students will also learn technical skills in using grids, their many uses as a tool, and how it assists in portrait drawing, as well as one & two-point perspective drawing.

Fundamentals of Drawing 1 is required before taking Fundamentals of Drawing 2.

This 12-week course will be held weekly from 3-5:30 pm, on Monday, September 15-December 1, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant.

Recommended ages: Adults only

This is a recurring 4-week class for students who wish to hone their colored pencil skills further with artist and instructor Julie Tyslicky. Class is dedicated to advanced ideas and rotating projects, as well as critique for serious students building a portfolio and looking to exhibit their work. Students MUST have completed Intro to Colored Pencils with Julie Tyslicky to enroll in this class.

This 4-week course will be held from 6-8 pm on Monday, September 15-October 6, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant.

Shift into the new season with instructor Cheryl Meyer in this 2-week watercolor workshop exploring the colors of autumn. Students will work within a limited color palette to recreate the beauty and atmosphere of fall scenery, learning how to blend their colors to maximum effect. Students will work from photographed images to practice their skills. Some basic watercolor experience is helpful, but not necessary. All supplies are provided.

This class will be held from 11 am-1 pm, Tuesday, September 16 & 23, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant

Recommended age: 16 and up

Teens/Young Adults are invited to join instructor Matt Grimmer for an overview of comic drawing. You’ll be guided through the steps of making a small comic, which will then be printed and handed back to students during the final session. We will cover key concepts such as working with comic panels, story pacing, and many different design techniques so students can feel confident portraying whatever type of story they wish. We'll touch upon subjects such as drawing landscapes, characters, and dialogue as students learn to illustrate their world and characters in the comic-style using both pencil and pen (comics are created and printed in black and white).

This 4-week course will be held weekly from 4-6 pm, Tuesdays, August 26-September 16, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant

Recommended age: 13 and up

Toddlers (and parents!) are invited to join us for Wee Wednesdays! Wee Wednesdays is a bi-monthly program held from 10 to 11 am on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. During each session, wee ones will develop skills in art, reading, critical thinking, and tactile exploration. Each session will be a new project created on-site for your little ones to take home and enjoy!

The program starts at 10 am, Wednesday, September 17, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant.

The 1842 historic Dougherty Mission House built by Rev. Peter Dougherty, Chief Agosa, the Ottawa and Chippewa opens for tours on Wednesday, June 12th Wednesdays through Saturdays, 11am until 4pm. Tour the former Inn where the fruit industry began in the Traverse City region.
Discover the ties to the Old Mission Peninsula Lighthouse while you tour the house, summer kitchen, carriage shed, icehouse, and demonstration garden. See the new Old Mission Agricultural Heritage exhibit where Old Mission Peninsula earned its name.
